born 1970 in Germany. Programming computers, creating visual arts and electronic music since the early 80s. First exhibition 1983 with surrealistic paintings in Hamburg. 1986 he took a course on electroacoustic music in Lüneburg by H.W. Erdmann and gave first live performances. In the following years several concerts in Germany, France and Belgium. 1991 founded the Hörbar in Hamburg, a club for experimental music which is still active. Studies Technical Assistant for Computer Engineering from 1992 to 1997 because multimedia classes were not available yet. 1995 first CD release of the music, before it was distributed on tape cassettes. In 1998 he started creating electronic art and installations which were shown in Kiel, Rantzau, Hamburg, Kassel, later in Malmö, Berlin, Bergen, Copenhagen, Chiang Mai and La Motte-Servolex.
Steiner presents his music more international on festivals for instance in Havana, Cuba, in 2000, USA in 2001 and 2004 in Thailand. Started to share the knowledge via radiofeatures and lectures, for instance a pd workshop at Access Space Sheffield and Vivid Birmingham, UK and several ones for the multimedia composition class of Georg Hajdu at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and HfbK Hamburg.
While he occasional uses the name Elektronengehirn for the experimental concerts and releases he also runs the musical projects Das Kombinat, Notstandskomitee, Akustikkoppler (with Matthias Schuster) and Restlichtverstärker (with Servando Barreiro).
In 2003 he created several webart projects including a collaborative visual networking environment which can be interfaced by web and mobile phones with a special J2ME client, shown in the German feature of Javamuseum and Computer Space Festival 2003, Sofia, Bulgaria.
Collaboration with the student of urban planning Karsten Drohsel under the name Urban Units exploring the intersection of architecture, urban concepts, media art and electronic music. Latest exhibition together was in June 2009 in Hamburg. Collaborations with artists Eva Sjuve and Michel Chevalier.
Involved in several open source projects like his softwaresynthesizer 'Minicomputer', Alsa Modular Synthesizer and the OSC middleware 'contrOSC'.
Artist-in-residency at Esc Im Labor, Graz Austria during Steirischer Herbst Festival 2009. Regular contributions to Piksel opensource media artfestival in Bergen, Norway.
Moved from Hamburg to Berlin in 2011, opened non-public media lab and studio Block 4. Working as freelance sound designer, media artist and software developer, giving lectures and workshops, mainly about contentcreation with free open source software like Pure Data, Csound and Blender.
One of the latest installations was created while being artist in Residency in Chile 2011 in Open City (La Ciudad Abierta) Of Ritoque, creating the installation Impossible City with PD, shown in Chile, Norway and Germany.
Creation of the first interactive work for e-paper, shown at Piksel 2012 festival.
Organizes the PureData Users meeting at c-base Berlin twice a month.
